Spent $800 on a cheap tool set and regretted it instantly
I bought a budget end mill set off Amazon for $800 thinking I was saving cash, but the first job on a 6061 aluminum part snapped three tools in an hour. The runout was terrible and the coatings flaked off after a few passes. Anyone else learn the hard way that cheap tooling costs more in the long run?

Bought a cheap carbide set once and watched the coating peel off like paint on a hot car. Never again, you pay double in broken tools and lost time.

Two shops I know went under because they kept buying the cheapest end mills instead of quality ones lol.

lol the coating peeling off like paint is a wild visual but honestly you're not that far off with cheap carbide. the thing though is that even some pricey end mills can be junk if they're from a brand that just rebrands cheap imports. i've seen shops spend good money on "premium" stuff from catalogs only to get the same batch as the budget stuff from alibaba. the real trick is knowing which brands actually spec their own material and grind their own flutes. you can get solid mid tier stuff like YG or Hertel that'll outlast anything from the bottom shelf without breaking the bank.
