Old Mazak lathe at the shop threw a code on a rush job

Last Tuesday I was running a tight deadline on a stainless steel part and my 1996 Mazak Quick Turn just locked up with a spindle drive fault. Turns out the coolant had been leaking into the electrical cabinet for weeks and nobody bothered to check. How do you guys handle machine maintenance when the boss refuses to shut down for a full cleanup?

Read a post from a guy last week who kept his machines running by swapping out coolant with a vegetable-based one. Less likely to eat through seals and cabinets. He also put a cheap humidity sensor inside the electrical box to catch leaks early. Saved him from a full rebuild.
