Just hit 5000 hours on our old Haas VF-2 and it's still holding tenths

I was sure we'd need a major rebuild by 4000, but the last job ran within .0003 across the whole batch. What's the most hours you've put on a machine before it needed serious work?

Wow, that's awesome to hear. Our old Fadal 4020 made it past 12,000 hours before we had to finally dig into the spindle bearings. I mean, we were religious about cleaning the way covers and checking the lube, though. That seemed to buy us a ton of time.

Totally agree on the cleaning and lube checks. We ran our old VMC into the ground but kept a strict weekly wipe-down schedule for the ways and ball screws. Found that just blowing out the chips from around the bellows area made a huge difference. Keeping the grease fresh in the lube pump was key too. Honestly think that basic stuff added years to the machine's life before any major rebuild.
