I was reading an old trade magazine from 1995 and saw that a basic 3-axis mill cost about $85,000 back then. That's wild.

That 85k price tag is actually pretty normal for industrial gear. You have to remember that was for a real shop floor machine, not some desktop toy. Adjusted for inflation, it's probably not that far off from what a decent new one costs today. The tech is way better now for the money, so it's not really that wild.

Totally agree, you get what you pay for with that stuff. Learned that the hard way trying to save cash on a used mill. What kind of work are you running on yours?

Did you see that old Popular Mechanics issue where they were reviewing CNC machines and the guy's beard was like a foot long? Crazy how much shop culture has changed since then.
