I finally stopped ignoring the old timer who told me to use a different feed rate

Guy named Jerry at the shop kept saying my finish would look better if I dropped my feed from 80 to 50 ipm. Took me 3 months and a rejected part before I tried it and now I never run roughing passes that fast. Anybody else have a coworker whose advice you brushed off until it cost you?

Same thing happened with me and a guy named Frank on spindle speeds, cost me a whole batch of aluminum parts.

Actually it's usually not the spindle speed itself that gets you, it's forgetting to adjust your feed rate to match lol. I've seen guys crank up the RPMs but leave the feed the same and then wonder why their surface finish looks like trash.

Nah man, I found cranking the RPMs fixed the finish way more than slowing down the feed ever did.
