Bought a $40 carbide end mill off eBay and it lasted 3 minutes before chipping
I got greedy and grabbed a cheap 3/8" carbide end mill from an eBay seller last month. Figured it was a good deal compared to the $75 ones I usually buy. On the third pass through some 4140 steel it chipped bad and ruined the part. Now I'm out the cost of the tool plus the material I wasted. Has anyone else had bad luck with cheap cutting tools from random sellers?

Ha, yep, you basically just paid $40 to learn a lesson the HARD way.

Man, that sucks! I totally feel your pain. I bought a set of cheap carbide end mills from some random eBay seller a while back and the first one I used chipped on the second pass through some mild steel. It was like using a dull butter knife, not a cutting tool. I tried to save a few bucks but ended up wasting way more time and material than if I just bought a good brand from the start. Lesson learned, right?
