Blew $80 on a laser probe attachment, still use my dial indicator for everything

Picked up one of those cheap laser edge finder probes off of Amazon last month because I was tired of squinting at the dial. Hooked it up to the spindle, got it aligned, and the first part I set zero on came out about 0.04" off the mark. Turns out the bracket had a little flex in it that I didn't catch until after I scrapped a piece of aluminum. I keep it in the drawer now for rough setups only, but honestly my trusty $25 dial indicator still does the job faster and I don't trust the laser for anything tight. Has anyone else had luck with those things or am I just stuck in the old ways?

Tbh I think half the problem is people expect digital stuff to be magic when it still needs the same setup care. I've got a cheap one too and it's strictly for finding edges on rough stock now, anything with a real tolerance I'm back on the dial. The flex thing is real, you aren't crazy.
