Used to toss all my vegetable scraps in the trash without thinking twice

I literally never gave a second thought to what went in the garbage after dinner. Like three years ago I was just chucking carrot peels, onion skins, and eggshells straight into the bin every single night. Then my neighbor in Austin let me try some compost from her backyard setup on my tomato plants and the difference was insane. So I started collecting scraps in a little bucket under the sink and now I drop them off at a community compost site two blocks from my apartment every Sunday morning. It is a pain to remember to take it out before it gets gross and I do slip up sometimes. But looking at how much less trash I put out each week honestly makes me feel better about the whole situation. Anyone else switch to composting and find it way easier than they expected but still hate the smell.

That smell is the worst part about it for sure. What helped me was getting one of those little countertop bins with a charcoal filter, now it barely smells until I actually forget to take it out for a few days. At that point you just gotta hold your breath and dump it fast. But really though, the difference in your trash volume is pretty eye opening, isnt it? I started weighing mine out of curiosity and I cut my weekly waste by about half. Makes you wonder how much we just throw away without thinking.
