Talked to a farmer in Nebraska who changed my mind about solar farms

He told me they actually help the soil recover during droughts because the panels provide shade and reduce evaporation. Made me realize I was just repeating stuff I heard without actually knowing the facts - you ever had someone totally flip your view on something with one simple explanation?

The "soil recovery" thing sounds nice but one farmer's opinion isn't science. Those panels cover huge areas and block rain from reaching the ground too. I'd want to see actual studies before changing my mind.

Wait hold on, you're telling me you don't trust one random farmer but you'll trust some study funded by a solar company? I mean yeah sure let's get the studies, but good luck finding one that's not paid for by someone who wants to sell you something. It's like when my uncle shares those health articles on Facebook - you gotta look at who's writing it and why. And that rain thing? Those panels have gaps between them, they're not a solid roof. But hey, what do I know, I'm just some guy on the internet with an opinion.

@margaret_taylor42 you nailed it, real world examples worked best for my neighbor who tried it on a small patch first.
