Solar panel recycling numbers shocked me at a county meeting

I went to the county planning meeting last Tuesday because they were talking about a big solar farm permit. Someone from the state gave a talk and said by 2035 we'll have over 1 million tons of dead solar panels just in our region. I had no idea the glass and wiring inside them is a pain to pull apart, and most places still ship them to landfills. We're pushing clean energy but nobody's really solved the disposal side yet, so what are you all doing with your old panels when they stop working?

My buddy Dale out in Maricopa had 14 panels die on him last summer after that crazy hail storm. Took him 3 weeks to find a place that would even take them, and he ended up paying 200 bucks out of pocket just to get rid of them. Said the whole thing felt backwards since he got a tax credit for buying them in the first place.
