Showerthought: I realized my 'green' lawn was a total waste of water and chemicals

The bill from the city for my water use in Denver last summer was over $300, and I saw all the dead bees on the grass. Anyone else just give up and switch to clover or something better?

Honestly, a $300 water bill in Denver is pretty normal for summer (sadly). Those dead bees could be from anything, maybe pesticides from a neighbor or just natural die-off. A perfect lawn might be a bit much, but having some green grass for kids or pets to play on isn't a crime. It feels like this stuff gets blown out of proportion sometimes.

Wait, three hundred dollars is normal? That's insane money just to keep grass green. Sure, kids need to play, but that price tag makes you wonder what we're really paying for. Dead bees piling up isn't just "natural die off" either, something's off there. The whole thing feels broken, not blown out of proportion.

Yeah, the dead bees thing got me worried too when I saw it in my yard. I switched to just hand pulling weeds and my bill went down a lot. It's not perfect but it helped.
