Rant: I tossed 30 plastic water bottles a month for two years until my neighbor in Portland pointed at my recycling bin
Back in March I was hauling a full blue bin to the curb every single pickup and feeling pretty good about myself, until my neighbor Dave glanced inside and said, "Half that stuff never gets recycled, you know." I looked it up that night and found out only about 5% of plastic actually gets remade into new stuff, so I bought a $22 filter pitcher and stopped buying cases of bottles cold turkey. What finally made you kick a habit you thought was fine?
Did you ever figure out what actually made it click for you? For me it was coffee pods, of all things. I had this whole drawer full of them and one day I did the math on what I spent in a year, and it was close to $400. I got a plain drip maker for $18 and a bag of grounds lasts me two weeks now. The money thing hit harder than the trash thing, honestly.
