Pro tip: Burying food scraps in my garden actually cut my trash output in half
I got tired of taking the kitchen trash out every other day because it was so heavy and wet... finally tried that dig-a-hole method I saw on a gardening forum. Just tossed veggie peels, eggshells, coffee grounds into a foot deep hole in the corner of my yard, covered it up with dirt. After 3 weeks the trash cans are way lighter and my tomatoes look insane. Has anyone else done this with like citrus peels? Heard they might mess with the soil pH.

Yeah that's a solid feeling when you realize you're not drowning in stinky kitchen scraps anymore. I've been doing it for a couple months now and my landlord is probably wondering why my trash can is suddenly so light.

Yeah that part about the worms really clicked for me. I had a buddy who tried burying citrus peels and his soil got a little funky for a bit but then the worm population EXPLODED and brought it right back around. He said the peels seemed to break down faster than he expected once the worms got into them. His yard smelled kinda like a mimosa tree for a week though, which was weird but not bad really.

I started doing the same thing last spring, buried all my citrus peels in a separate trench about 2 feet away from my tomatoes just to be safe. After a few months I tested the soil and it was still fine, the worms seemed to love the orange and lemon scraps. My strawberry patch went absolutely wild that season so I wouldn't worry too much about the pH thing.
