My neighborhood tree project just hit a major milestone

We put in a bunch of saplings around the block like five years ago. Honestly, I forgot about them for a while, lmao. But walking past them today, they're actually big enough to cast real shade. It hit me that a lot of climate stuff is just playing the long game. Kind of wild to think what else we're planting now that'll only help later.

Oh that's so cool. We did a community garden plot once and felt the same way. Nothing happened for months, just dirt and tiny leaves. Then one August we had more zucchini than we knew what to do with, it was awesome. Makes you realize slow progress is still progress.

Yeah but five years is wild. I tried growing a chia pet once and got impatient after like three days. Those trees really out here playing the ultimate waiting game while I can't even keep a basil plant alive for a month. Makes me wonder if all my good deeds are just planting future shade for some teenager who isn't even born yet. Kinda funny we're all out here slowly gardening the whole planet while the weeds, aka everything else, just sprout up overnight.

Honestly felt that. Killed a cactus from overwatering last year, which takes real talent. My mom planted an oak tree when I was a kid and it's still just a weird little stick. Makes you realize we're all just throwing seeds at the dirt and hoping. Kinda nice though, like we're leaving little slow-motion gifts for total strangers.
