My city's new compost program seemed like a hassle until I saw the numbers
I was skeptical about the extra bin and sorting, but after 6 months they announced we diverted 40 tons of waste from the landfill. Anyone else have a local program that actually worked better than you expected?

Wow, 40 tons is no joke. That's like a whole garbage truck's worth, right? Makes me wonder if @xena_fox39's rain barrel savings added up more than they thought too. Sometimes these small city programs actually pull their weight.

Got a rain barrel from the city last year. Figured it would just sit there, but my water bill actually went down a bit.

Honestly, I'm still not sold. Our town started a compost pickup and it's a total mess. The bins attract rats and the truck comes at 5am waking everyone up. They spent a ton of money on those special trucks too. For 40 tons? That seems like a drop in the bucket compared to what the whole city throws out. Feels like a lot of hassle for a tiny win.
