My buddy in Denver swore that going vegan was the single biggest thing an individual could do for the climate. I did it for a year, and the numbers just didn't add up.

My cousin tried that whole carbon footprint calculator thing and got obsessed with it. He was adding up every little trip to the store and what he ate. It drove him nuts because the numbers kept changing depending on which website he used. He ended up just buying a bike and calling it good, said the math was giving him a headache.

Your buddy's right that it helps, but it's not the magic bullet people make it out to be. The real climate villains are the big systems, not your grocery list. I looked into it too, and my personal footprint was a drop in the bucket compared to what gets burned for electricity or shipping. It feels good to make a personal change, but we're kidding ourselves if we think swapping burgers for beans is going to fix this. We need bigger fixes, not just different meals.
