Last Wednesday my street flooded so bad I couldn't make my deliveries
It was just a normal rainstorm, nothing crazy like a hurricane. But the drainage in my neighborhood is so clogged up that water was up to my car doors by 3pm. Had to turn around and call my dispatcher and tell em I couldn't finish my route. Wasted a whole tank of gas sitting in traffic and then driving home. The weird part is everyone on my block blamed the city but nobody talks about how we paved over half the green spaces around here. Anyone else notice their town flooding more after they built new parking lots?

Hit the nail on the head with that. The new lots and the strip malls are just giant rain collectors. They put a huge shopping center in by my old high school, covered a whole field, and now that intersection floods every time it drizzles for more than an hour. Nobody put in any special pavement or rain gardens. They just slapped down asphalt and called it a day. Its like we forgot that water has to go somewhere. We took away the dirt that soaked it up and now we're mad when it sits on top of the concrete.

The blacktop absorbs all the heat and then dumps rain faster than any ditch can handle, its like we made our own flash flood machine. Did they put in any rain gardens or permeable pavement by those new lots?
