Just got my first electric bill after the solar panels went live

Last month in Tucson, the installers finally flipped the switch on our rooftop system. I checked the online account this morning and saw the total was only $32 for the whole house, down from over $200 in July. It's a small thing, but seeing that number made all the planning feel real. Has anyone else had a moment like that after their install?

Oh man, that reminds me of my neighbor. He called me over just to show me his electric bill on his phone screen. He was pointing at the "total energy delivered" line, which was zero for the month. The guy was practically bouncing, he was so happy. He said it finally felt like the house was working for him instead of the other way around.

That "house working for him" feeling is so real. I got the same rush when my solar panels finally covered my whole bill last summer. It took a couple years of tweaking my usage habits, like running the dishwasher during the day. Now I just grin every time I get that statement.

Seriously though, that moment when your electric bill hits zero or goes negative is something else. It took me about a year to get my setup dialed in too, had to shift laundry and the dryer to weekends when the sun was out. Now I get a little credit most months and it feels like I beat the system somehow.
