Hot take: that record heat week last July was actually a weird blessing for my garden
The city hit 106 three days straight and my tomatoes exploded with fruit while my neighbor's lawn turned brown, but then the basil bolted overnight and I had to harvest everything early - so was that extreme weather good or bad for local food growing?

Read a similar story on a gardening blog last year and thought they were crazy for calling it a blessing. But then my own cherry tomatoes went absolutely nuts during that heat wave, way more than any other year. Had to admit I was wrong when I was drowning in ripe fruit while everything else was struggling. Still bitter about that basil though, bolting overnight is just rude.

Picked my friend's entire basil patch at 5 AM after she called crying about it bolting.
