Honestly, my electric bill in Phoenix was killing me until I tried this one thing
Tbh, I was paying over $400 a month last summer just to keep my house at 78 degrees. I finally caved and got a smart thermostat, the Nest one, and set it to bump up to 82 when I'm at work. Ngl, I was shocked when my bill dropped by almost $100 the very next month. Has anyone else found a simple tech fix that actually made a big dent in their energy use?

Smart thermostats are great, but a lot of people forget about the water heater. I wrapped mine in an insulating blanket from the hardware store, and it was a cheap fix that saved a noticeable amount. The thing was just pumping heat into my garage all day for no reason. It's an old unit, so that little bit of insulation made it work way less.

My dad did that years ago and swore it cut his gas bill. The energy department actually has guides on which heaters need it, since newer ones are already pretty tight. Makes sense to check before you bother wrapping a modern unit.
