Heat pump efficiency numbers feel fake in real winter
I read a DOE report saying heat pumps lose 40% of their rated efficiency below 20F, but then saw a study from a Norway pilot where they ran fine at 5F. My own unit in Minneapolis struggled hard during the January cold snap, pulling 3x the power for half the heat. Are the manufacturers cherry picking climate zones, or are installers just sizing them wrong? Anyone else see a big gap between the spec sheet and their electric bill?
