The crosswalk button trick I never knew until last Tuesday
I've lived in Portland for 8 years and always smashed the crosswalk button, thinking it made the light change faster. Last week a city worker told me the button is just for accessibility noises, the light cycle is on a timer. I felt so dumb, I'd been doing it every single day. Do other cities have buttons that actually work, or is this just how it is everywhere?
Honestly, the part about smashing the button every day hit me right in the gut because I did the same thing for years. I once timed myself pressing it 15 times in a row, convinced I was hacking the system, only to realize I was just giving my thumb a workout. Tbh, we’re just out here paying respect to the crosswalk gods, whether they listen or not.
