The crosswalk button at 5th and Main is rigged and I can prove it
Okay so I wait at that corner every morning for the bus and for three weeks straight I pressed the button and counted. The walk signal takes exactly 47 seconds either way, pressed or not. Yesterday I stood there with two other people and we tested it three times, nobody pushed it once and the light changed at the exact same count. Why do cities even keep these buttons if they are just for show? Has anyone else tested a specific intersection in their neighborhood and found the same thing?
Laughed way too hard at the idea of three grown adults standing on a corner, refusing to touch the button, staring at the light like it owes you money. Honestly you probably did more research than the city ever did on that thing. Those buttons are basically placebos for impatient people, they make you feel like you have control while the timer just does its own thing. There is one near my grocery store that clicks so loudly you would swear it works, and nope, same 40 seconds every single time. Congrats on cracking the case, you are now the neighborhood expert nobody asked for but everybody needs.
