Shoutout to my neighbor for picking my side street over the main road last Thursday
I was heading home from work in Austin around 5:30 and hit a dead stop on Lamar. My neighbor texted me saying to take Cherry Lane instead. I figured why not, pulled a U-turn at the gas station, and saved myself a full 25 minutes of sitting in traffic. Turned out there was a wreck blocking two lanes on Lamar. Now I take that side street every afternoon and it cuts my commute from 45 minutes down to 20. Has anyone else found a secret route that changed their daily drive?
...so I thought I was a genius the first time I found a back way around the 35 construction. Told everyone I knew, felt like a traffic wizard. Then I realized my "secret shortcut" was literally the exact same route my own mom has been taking for 20 years. Guess I'm not as clever as I thought, but hey, at least I'm not sitting still on Lamar watching my gas tank empty out. That Cherry Lane find is a solid win though, seriously. I'd probably frame a photo of that street sign if it saved me 25 minutes a day.
