Guy at the bus stop on 5th said the city's new chat line got him a pothole fixed in 2 days
I was waiting for the 14 bus on 5th Street this morning and this older guy next to me was telling someone on speaker that he reported a huge pothole on his block through the city's text chat line and a crew filled it two days later. I had no idea our city even had a chat option, I always just called the 311 number and sat on hold for 20 minutes. He pulled up the thread on his phone to show me, and sure enough there was a real person replying with a work order number and everything. I tried it myself when I got home and got a reply in about an hour about the broken streetlight on my corner. Has anyone else used the city chat thing, and did they actually follow through for you or did it fizzle out after the first message?
Two days for a pothole? Come on. I've seen the city take two months just to send somebody out to look at a busted water main on my street, and that was after three calls. A chat line that gets a real work order in an hour sounds great, but talk is cheap. The real test is whether that crew actually shows up and whether the ticket stays open or just gets closed on a desk somewhere. I'd give it a couple weeks and see if your streetlight actually gets fixed or if you're still standing in the dark. Gets a reply fast, sure, but does the reply mean anything?
