Why is everyone asking for chimney camera inspections all of a sudden?

Lately, almost every new customer asks if I use a camera to check their chimney. I've been sweeping for over a decade and never needed one for most jobs. Is this from home renovation shows or social media? I'm curious if other sweeps are feeling this push too.

My buddy in property insurance says they’ve started pushing for visual proof of chimney condition before writing policies. After a few big claims from hidden cracks, they want the camera scan in the file. That trickles down to homeowners getting letters saying they need a “full interior inspection” to keep their coverage. Suddenly everyone asks for the camera because their insurer told them to.

Yeah @gray_carter96, I saw a whole news segment on this exact thing.

Check the actual policy wording first. Most insurers just require a basic inspection, not a full camera scan. They often leave it up to the homeowner to pick the method.
