Visited a job site in Denver last week where the homeowner insisted on a DIY liner install - what a mess

They used a flexible aluminum liner instead of stainless steel, and it was already sagging after just two fires. Do you guys ever let clients do half the work themselves, or do you draw a hard line like I do?

Draw a hard line every time after seeing what happens with homeowner specials like that. I explain to clients that mixing labor on a liner install voids any warranty I'd offer, and the sagging you saw is exactly why. They either let me do the whole thing from start to finish or I walk away.

Couldn't agree more @joelwells, I learned that lesson the hard way a few years back when a customer insisted on doing the top plate themselves. They didn't seal it right and smoke was leaking into the attic within a month. Now I tell people straight up that I do the whole job or nothing at all, no exceptions. It saves so much headache down the road for everyone involved.
