TIL creosote logs aren't a scam after all
I used to think those creosote sweeping logs were just marketing hype, but after a busy winter I skipped my usual brush cleaning and tried one. It knocked loose about a cup of flaky buildup I'd missed with just a glance up the flue. Anyone else find these things actually do something or was I just lucky?

Wait, a whole cup? That's way more than I'd expect from a fake log.

Derek, that's rough. A whole cup of fake log is no joke, I've been there myself and it's a mess you don't forget. The way they pack those things with foam and glue, it just soaks up the heat and drips forever. Makes a real fire look sad in comparison when you're trying to get the place warm. Hope you got it cleaned up quick before the soot set in too bad. Solidarity from another person who learned this one the hard way.

Wait, a whole cup? That's way more than I'd expect from a fake log too, @victorb17... I thought those things just had a little bit of fake ash or something inside. Man, a whole cup of that foam and glue stuff dripping out sounds like a nightmare. You must've been scrubbing for days to get that soot off the fireplace. I always thought those logs were safer than real wood, but now I'm not so sure. Glad I never had to deal with that kind of mess myself...
