Roof stack crust too thick? Try the shop vac reverse trick

Had a stubborn 3-story chimney last Tuesday where the creosote was so packed the brush just bounced off. I taped a leaf blower to the vac hose outlet to blow air down while I swept from below, and the flakes came off way easier. Anyone else used forced air to bust up thick buildup, or is this gonna wreck my vac motor?
