Overheard a homeowner talking about creosote logs like they fix everything

Sitting at a diner in Scranton last Tuesday, this guy told his buddy he just rolls a creosote log in every month and skips the sweep. I almost choked on my coffee. I get that they break down some buildup, but they don't touch glaze or blockages from bird nests, and they sure don't fix a cracked flue. Maybe I'm old school, but I'd rather spend 45 minutes with my rotary brush than trust a chemical fix for a fire hazard. Has anyone else had to talk a customer out of relying on those things?

Did he happen to mention what he plans to do when that log leaves a nice hard glaze that the next sweep has to chip off? That conversation might go differently once he's paying for extra scraping time.
