I finally understand why some chimneys just won't draft right

Had a long talk with an old mason named Frank at the supply yard last week, he pointed out my brush was worn down to 7 inches instead of the full 9 and told me 'you can't clean what you can't reach.' Has anyone else ever chased a draft problem for hours only to find out it was something this simple?

Respectfully, a worn brush isn't gonna stop a chimney from drafting (that's a separate issue).

@drewsullivan is right, a dirty brush won't fix drafting problems on its own. Most of the time it's a flue or air flow issue that needs real attention. Clean tools help but they're not a magic bullet for bad chimney design.
