I finally caught myself using the wrong brush for a 6-inch flue on an old Victorian house yesterday.

Watched the soot just smear because I grabbed a plastic-bristled brush instead of wire, and now I'm wondering how many other sweeps are making the same mistake on tight flues; anyone else had a brush fail on them like that?

Made that exact mistake last month on a narrow flue and regretted it instantly.

Yeah I learned that lesson the hard way too. Now I always use a small drywall saw and cut from the top down, way less messy.
