Had to pick between a steel brush and a poly brush for clay flue tiles

I went with the steel brush on a big job last month because the creosote was thick and glazed, but it scratched up the tiles bad and now I'm wondering if I should've just taken more time with the poly brush - anyone else run into this call?

Steel brush on glazed creosote is like using a sledgehammer to kill a fly, we've all been there. I still find poly brush bits in my truck from the last time I gave in.

@blair_dixon nailed it with that sledgehammer comparison, my tiles are still pissed at me lol

Does anyone else find that the poly brushes actually work pretty well if you're doing a small spot? I've had decent luck using them on my flue tiles when I'm just knocking off a thin layer of creosote before the real cleaning. They don't scratch things up like a steel brush would but they still get the job done for lighter buildup.
