Cleaned a 200-year-old flue in Concord and found a bird nest made of fiberglass insulation

I read somewhere that birds will use just about any material they can find for nests. Fiberglass insulation in a flue sounds like a bad fire hazard waiting to happen.

Ngl fiberglass is probably safer than all the plastic twine they normally use.

Totally feel you on that, finding random stuff in old flues always gives me the creeps. Fiberglass in a nest is honestly terrifying, I can only imagine how much that stuff irritates their little lungs. Poor birds probably thought they found something soft but it's basically tiny glass shards. Hope you got it all cleared out without any trouble.
