Best week of the year turned into a nightmare real quick
Last Tuesday I had a week of easy cleanouts lined up, three houses all in the same neighborhood. First two went smooth, barely any buildup, in and out in under an hour each. Third house had a bird nest jammed way up in the flue, took me almost 2 hours to fish it all out with my rotary brush. Then on Friday a customer called saying I left soot on their antique rug, even though I swear I laid down tarps. Had to go back for free and spent another 45 minutes scrubbing with a shop vac attachment. Anyone else ever get blamed for damage you know you didnt cause?

Man, that is brutal! I had almost the exact same thing happen with a customer who swore I scratched their hardwood floors. I'm super careful with those felt pads and everything, but they called me back the next day with a photo of a six-inch scuff. I know it wasn't me because I literally vacuumed and wiped down every corner before I left, but I still had to spend an hour buffing it out for free. It's like some people just look for something to complain about, you know?

Yeah it's like people think every small business owner is some kind of crook just waiting to screw them over. They've probably been burned once or twice by some fly by night company and now they take it out on everyone. I see it all the time at the hardware store too. Someone brings back a tool they claim broke after one use but you can tell by the dings and scratches it's been beat to hell for months. It's just this constant low level distrust people have now. Nobody wants to just take your word for anything anymore. You gotta document every step or they'll try to pin their own mess on you.

Heard the same thing from my buddy Mitch who does gutter cleaning. He had a lady swear he dented her downspout, but it was already bent when he got there. He took a photo before he started that time, saved his butt.
