Appreciation post: switching to rotary brushes changed my whole setup
I ran a stiff wire brush for 12 years around Akron, Ohio, and thought the scuffing marks were normal. Picked up a rotary kit from a supply house in Cleveland last fall and the difference is night and day, no more burned carbon buildup on the flue tiles. Took me about 4 jobs to trust it, but now I can finish a standard sweep in 25 minutes instead of 45. Has anyone else made the jump and felt like they were breaking the old habit too?

You said "night and day" but I call it trading one problem for another. I ran a rod and stiff brush for 20 years and those scuff marks actually help the soot grip the tile, so it doesn't slide down all at once. Rotary brushes spin so fast they leave this fine dust that gets into every crack and the homeowner's HVAC filter in a week. Plus my 45 minute time was quality time, checking for cracks and loose tiles, not just blasting through the flue.
