A homeowner's tip about creosote buildup saved my paddle brush

Last month I was out on a job in a 90 year old house, and the homeowner watched me scrape the flue and asked why I wasn't using a wire wheel attachment on my drill. I laughed it off at first, but honestly, my paddle brush was leaving a thin layer I couldn't see. He was right, the buildup was mostly baked on, not loose. I picked up a cheap wire cup brush for my drill for about 15 bucks and ran it slowly up and down the flue. That changed how I handle any chimney that's been burning wet wood for years. Has anyone else tried that trick, or do you stick with scraping by hand?
