A customer in Boulder told me my chimney cap install was noisy and I had to rethink my whole approach
Last month a guy called me back after a job and said every time the wind picked up, his new chimney cap sounded like a metal trash can rolling down the street. I used the same universal fit caps I always do with standard screws. He was right though, the fit was loose. I swapped it out for a custom sized one with a tension band instead of screws. No more rattle. Anyone else run into noise complaints with certain cap types?

Honestly that's a solid point about the tension band. I read somewhere that loose screw fittings are the main culprit for those wind noise issues, even on caps that seem tight at first.

Yeah you're right, I was dead wrong about that. Changed my whole take on it.

Huh, I always figured it was just the seal itself that caused that?
