My mandolin slicer finally gave out mid-shift last Saturday

I was prepping 40 pounds of potatoes for a catering order and the blade just snapped clean in half on the 12th potato. Had to finish the rest with a knife and it took me almost an extra hour. That thing was a $30 model I got three years ago from a restaurant supply store, so I guess I got my money's worth. What's a solid replacement for high-volume slicing that won't break the bank but can handle heavy use? Anybody have a brand that held up through a busy season?

Get a Benriner, they're cheap and last forever.

Did you at least get to take a victory break while staring at the other half of the blade like "well, that's my overtime, right there"? lol

$30 for three years of heavy use is actually a pretty good deal. But honestly if you're snapping blades on potatoes something is off. I used to blow through cheap slicers every couple months until I figured out it wasnt the blades it was how I was pushing. @olivia_allen thats exactly what I did the first time one broke on me. Stood there for a good five minutes holding both pieces wondering if I could JB Weld it back together. If you want something that'll hold up without bankrupting you, look at the Oxo Good Grips. Its about $40 but the blade is thicker and the whole thing is built tougher than those flimsy restaurant supply ones. I prep 50 pounds of squash with mine twice a week and its still sharp after a year. Just keep it out of the dishwasher and hand wash it.
