My backup knife roll saved a catering gig last Saturday

We had a wedding for 140 people out in the suburbs and my main knife bag got left in my truck bed during a downpour. Wood handles swelled up, blades rusted in spots, total mess. I had thrown together a cheap backup roll about 2 years ago with old house knives and a $12 sharpening steel from a restaurant supply place. Never used it once until that day. Three of us worked through 60 pounds of veggies and a full pig breakdown with those beaters, and honestly they held an edge longer than I expected after a quick pass on the steel. Have you ever had to lean on backup gear when your main kit failed? What do you keep in yours? Getting asked to work a 220 plate event next month and I might just make that backup roll my primary setup after seeing it perform.
