Why does nobody talk about how long it takes to track down a decent cheap burger in a small town?

Tbh I moved to a little place outside Waco about 6 months ago and thought finding a good burger under ten bucks would be easy. Nope. I tried like 8 different spots over 3 weekends and kept getting dry patties or bad buns. Finally found this little gas station joint called Bucky's that makes a solid cheeseburger for 5 bucks even. But it took me nearly 4 months of hunting to find it. Anyone else waste way too much time searching for a cheap meal in a new area?

Oh man, Bucky's is solid but you got one thing wrong. It's not a gas station joint, it's actually a convenience store with a grill in the back. I know because my cousin worked there for a year. But yeah, I feel your pain on the hunt. When I moved to a tiny town in Nebraska I wasted a month driving to three different diners before I found out the local VFW had a burger night every Thursday. Four bucks and they actually season the meat. Small towns hide the good cheap food in the weirdest places. You just gotta know who to ask.

Waste way too much time searching for a cheap meal in a new area" is the most accurate sentence I’ve read today. I used to think decent food was everywhere until I moved, and now I totally get it.
