Tried the $5 lunch special at that gas station on 3rd and Main after my kid's dentist appointment

Used to drive past it every day thinking no way it's any good, but I finally gave in last Tuesday and got a massive plate of birria tacos for under 6 bucks. Has anyone else found hidden gems like that at random gas stations or am I just late to the party?

Hold up on that hype train. I see this differently. Gas station tacos are a straight up gamble and most places don't have a clue how to handle food safety. You got lucky with birria but I've seen too many horror stories with old meat sitting out under heat lamps. That $5 special is cheap for a reason, and it's usually because they're cutting corners on ingredients or letting stuff sit way too long. I'd rather spend a few bucks more at a taco truck that actually cares about turnover.

Used to be the exact same way honestly. I would never even look at gas station food, figured it was all just sad hot dogs rolling around for hours. But then my buddy dragged me to this one spot that had a line out the door and I was really skeptical. Got the al pastor and it was actually fresh, like they were carving it right off the trompo. That experience definitely made me rethink the whole thing, but I get where you're coming from with the food safety stuff. Have you ever tried one of those places that has a separate little stand outside, or do you just avoid them altogether?
