Showerthought: I spent 5 years paying for extra guac at Chipotle before realizing the cashier never actually charged me for it

Suddenly noticed my receipt showed no guac charge on a $8.72 bowl after the 12th time, and now I feel like an idiot for voluntarily adding a dollar to the tip screen every visit, anyone else ever overpay for something that was already free?

Ha, you got lucky with that cashier. But man, that tip guilt is real though. Did you ever look back at your total and think "huh, that seems low" and just shrugged it off? I've done that with a free salsa cup at a taco place, tipped extra because I felt bad for taking up the counter space while I decided.

Oh for sure, I've done that exact thing. I tipped an extra couple bucks at a sandwich shop once because the guy making my sub remembered I don't like onions and didn't even ask. I mean, that's just basic customer service, right? But I still felt like I owed him for being on top of it, so I just dropped a five on the counter and walked out. It's like your brain knows it's not really required, but your guilt takes over anyway.

Ngl I've totally done that. Tipped a dollar on a coffee once because the barista handed me a free sample muffin and I felt like I owed them for the hustle.
