Gas station sushi debate - a coworker made me question my go-to lunch

I used to grab the $4.99 spicy tuna roll from the 7-Eleven on Main Street every Tuesday. One guy in the break room said I was eating 'stomach grenades' and showed me a news article about parasites. Now I stick to the $5.50 teriyaki chicken bowl from the same cooler. Anyone else have a regular spot that someone talked you out of?

Have you tried checking the expiration date on those packs before you buy? I still hit up gas station sushi sometimes but I only grab the ones that are actually dated for tomorrow or later. The teriyaki bowl is honestly safer though since the chicken is cooked and held hot, less chance of something growing in it.

@olivia_rivera88 never really thought about checking dates like that, I always just grabbed whatever was there. That's actually smart though, now I'm gonna be that person squinting at the package in the cooler. Maybe the teriyaki bowl is the move for real.

Check the temp with your hand before buying, cold is safe but warm is a no go.
