A line cook at Denny's in Tulsa told me I was ruining my cast iron by using soap and now I only scrub with salt and oil.

After 3 months of testing his method on my $12 thrift store skillet, the eggs slide off like butter and I've never looked back, has anyone else had a cook change their kitchen routine like that?

My buddy Mike used to wash his cast iron with dish soap and water until his landlord yelled at him for "ruining a perfectly good pan." Now he only scrubs with kosher salt and swears his cornbread has never stuck since he made the switch. I told him next he's gonna start seasoning it with his own tears like a real purist.

Ruining my cast iron by using soap" - that whole myth is from grandma's lye soap era.
