Unpopular opinion: store brand tuna is not worse than name brand, and my $3.50 Tuesday casserole proves it
Two weeks ago my grocery budget got cut to $30 for the whole week after my car needed a $400 repair. I grabbed two cans of store brand tuna at $0.89 each instead of the $2.19 name brand. Made a tuna noodle casserole with egg noodles ($1.29), a can of cream of mushroom soup ($0.75), and frozen peas ($0.57 for the portion I used). Total came to about $3.50 and fed me lunch and dinner for two days. My roommate tried it and could not tell the difference. He still buys the name brand stuff. I honestly can't figure out why anyone pays more than double for tuna that tastes the same in a casserole. Is there something I'm missing about name brand tuna or is it just the label?
