Rant: That store brand Worcestershire sauce almost ruined my chili
I saved 2 bucks on the store brand at Food City last week and my chili tasted like salty vinegar. Has anyone else got burned by generic sauces or is it just me?

Nope, you gotta spend the extra two bucks. Store brand Worcestershire is basically just brown water.

Have you ever tried tasting them side by side? I did that once out of curiosity and it was wild. The real stuff has that deep, fermented tang with a little sweetness, but the store brand was just sour and watery. I think they thin it down with too much vinegar and cut corners on the molasses or tamarind. It's like they're selling you the idea of Worcestershire without actually making it. For chili especially, you need that umami punch or it falls flat and tastes like vinegar soup.
