Figured out I was cooking rice wrong for 12 bucks a week
I used to buy those 90 second rice pouches at Kroger for like $3 each and think I was being smart because no waste. Then my roommate watched me do it one night and just pointed at the 5 pound bag of plain white rice sitting on our shelf that cost $4.50. Turns out that bag makes like 25 servings and I had been burning $30 a week on rice alone for months. Now I dump a cup in a pot with two cups water, lid on, low heat 18 minutes, done, and it costs me about 20 cents a serving. Has anyone else done the math on their lazy shortcuts and felt like an idiot after?
Ha, I did the same thing with those salad kits for about a year. The bagged lettuce and a bottle of dressing cost a third of what I was paying, and I felt like a genius until I added it up. My big takeaway from all this is that lazy usually has a price tag, and it is almost always higher than doing it the slow way.
