Rethinking garage organization after talking to a mechanic

I had a chat with a mechanic last weekend while waiting for an oil change. He saw all my toolboxes and told me I was wasting space stacking them top to bottom. Said I should hang more stuff on pegboards instead. It hit different because he showed me his bay with maybe 3 cabinets and everything else on walls. Has anyone else gone from cabinets to wall storage and regretted the switch?

Yeah pegboards get dusty way faster than cabinets do.

Hang everything on pegboards and you'll regret it the first time you need a clean tool for a greasy job. Dust settles on everything, sure, but cabinets keep the grime off your precision tools. I switched half my stuff to walls and half stayed in drawers, works way better that way. The mechanic's bay is a showroom, not a real workspace where you dig through bins at 6AM. Don't let one pro's flashy setup talk you into something you'll hate.
