Had a talk with my grandpa about his old truck and it made me rethink my whole approach to fixing things
So I was visiting my grandpa last weekend and he showed me his 1987 F-150 that he still drives. I started telling him about all the parts I was ordering online for my own project truck and he just laughed. He said he's never bought a part online in his life, just walks down to the local auto parts store and talks to the guys there. He told me that half the time they save him money by showing him a simpler fix or a used part that works just as good. I was sitting there thinking about how I spent 3 hours last week researching a part on forums and then paid $60 for something that might have cost $20 at the shop down the road. My grandpa has been driving that truck for 38 years and it still runs. Makes me wonder if I'm overcomplicating things by always going online first. Has anyone else had that moment where an older person made you step back and see your habits were kind of dumb?

Man, that hit close to home. I've got a whole shelf of parts I ordered online that are still in boxes because I bought the wrong thing or it didn't fit right. Saw my neighbor fix a leaky faucet with a rubber washer that cost him like a buck, while I was eyeing a $40 rebuild kit on Amazon. Makes you feel a little ridiculous, doesn't it?

Wait, he's been driving that same truck for 38 years and NEVER bought a part online? That's wild, man. I don't think I know anyone under 50 who doesn't just default to Amazon for everything.
